Raising Funds for Refugees in Germany

April 15 - May 21, 2022

As part of the GAI's commitment to advancing peace and justice, it has launched the “Communities for Ukraine” campaign to support Ukrainian refugees who have fled to St. Paul, Minnesota's adopted “sister cities” of Plonsk, Poland and Zell, Germany. Together with the Ukrainian American Community Center and many other partners in their community, the GAI hopes to raise $20,000 by May 21 to provide critical aid to refugees who need housing and immediate economic support. There are now more than 300 refugees in Zell and nearby villages, with more arriving daily. Funds will go directly to the town of Zell to help them house more refugees.

To learn more about the GAI’s connection to Zell and its sister city of Plonsk, which is daily receiving more refugees from the war, please read this letter from the GAI's Board Chair Danika Hoffmann.

Please donate at gaimn.org/ukraine and you will receive the event details for a community gathering on May 21, 2022 in your confirmation email.

Community gathering in support of Ukranian refugees

May 21, 2022, 5 - 7 pm CT

In conjunction with the online fundraiser, Communities for Ukraine partners and donors are invited to join for a gathering of support and thanks, featuring speakers from the GAI, the Ukrainian American Community Center (UACC), and the German Consulate in Chicago.

Guests will receive a food and beverage ticket redeemable for a Paulaner beer or other beverage, Kramarczuks’ bratwurst, and a variety of German and Ukrainian side dishes and desserts. Everyone will have the opportunity to participate in a video message to the Ukrainians living in Zell and write cards of support.

All funds collected at the gathering will go to the Ukrainian American Community Center (UACC) to support their work for Ukraine. Suggested donation is $30 per person.
