Join Goethe Pop Up Seattle at our September online book club meeting! Simply send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to receive the Zoom access code.
The book club is free and open to everyone interested, but participants must purchase the individual texts themselves and are expected to have read the title to be discussed prior to the meeting.
If you still need a copy of the book, the ebook version of ELLBOGEN is available through the Goethe-Institut's Onleihe [eLibrary].
The September book club explores the minority experience in Germany with Fatma Aydemir's ELLBOGEN. Angry and defiant, the novel tells the story of Turkish-German teenager Hazal. Caught between the borders of culture, society, and race, Hazal exists outside the privileges that wealthy white Germans experience. In trouble and confused, she flees to Istanbul, a place completely unknown to her. Where is her place in the world? Does she even have one?
ELLBOGEN is a novel both firmly contemporary--reliant on pop culture & 21st century teen angst--yet timeless in its themes of belonging, longing, and love. ⠀
PLEASE NOTE: This month's selection, ELLBOGEN by Fatma Aydemir, is only available in German.
