About the film

Every year, 1.2 million students drop out of high school in the USA. Indianapolis, a sister city of Cologne, has one of the lowest high school graduation rates in the country. Black minorities in particular, often with low incomes, are affected by systemic disadvantage, a vicious cycle that often includes dropping out of school. Emmy award-winning director Andrew Cohn’s documentary follows African-American students Greg Henson, Shynika Jakes and Melissa Lewis as they are determined to complete their night school degrees. “Night School goes deep into the lives of its protagonists, putting faces to the statistics and emphasizing the human factor,” writes the Wall Street Journal about the award-winning film. Screening begins at 2 pm EDT / 20 Uhr Germany. Post-screening virtual Q & A with Excel Center Meadows Director Laura Fehr. To register for screening use the contact form on this website.
