EVENT DETAILS

Composing the Future

October 6th, 2021, 11:30 AM ET // 5:30 PM CEST

The seminar concert is a collaboration between the University of Siegen, Germany and the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, NY, USA.

Organ music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and from our time.

Organ and moderation by Martin Herchenröder.

Naumburg's Wenzelkirche houses an organ whose conception reveals the influence and possibly the participation of Johann Sebastian Bach.

The historical instrument, created in 1746 by the brilliant Leipzig organ builder Zacharias Hildebrandt, is now the scene of a project that points to the future: Under the direction of Professor Martin Herchenröder, composition students from the University of Siegen in Germany and the Eastman School of Music from Rochester, NY get to know the instrument in an online seminar directly on the organ. Subsequently to the seminar the students will incorporate the newly gained knowledge into the composition of their own new piece of music which, in case the conditions of the pandemic will allow it, is to be premiered next year at the Naumburg organ live, in person and on site.

The seminar concert is open to the public and will be streamed via YouTube; the seminar will be held as a video conference via Zoom.
